Rescued Scouts Begin Descent From Mountain
Thirty seven Boy Scouts and two Scoutmasters started a careful descent from the six hundred foot level of Mt Baden Powell near Los Angeles. They had been stranded by heavy snow in the San Gabriel mountains where four to five inches had fallen since Wednesday. Rescuers faced icy trails and near freezing temps as 42 of the 154 trapped had already reached safety. An adult leader with an infected foot rode a pack horse with a sheriff’s rescue team. The group carried hot stew and awaited further assistance.
