Elderly Woman Beaten in Home on Van Ness Avenue
In San Francisco a 72 year old woman, Mrs Agnes Provost, was beaten early today in her first floor apartment at 825 Van Ness Avenue by a would be rapist about 80 years old who forced entry and fled after her cries. She was taken to hospital with serious injuries including fractured jaws and cheek. Police chased possible suspect as another elderly woman, Ada Baring, 68, was found beaten last Friday in a Fulton Street vacant lot and remains in serious condition.

Woman and Son Burned in Oakland Apartment Fire
In Oakland an elderly woman Nahcy Mathews aged 86 and her son Parker aged 42 were burned in a dwelling fire. They were taken to Highland hospital. Mathews suffered burns to chest and right hand while Parker had a left foot burn. A passerby William Pitts aged 21 saw smoke and helped Mathews to safety.
