Sheriff’s deputies report an unlocked back door may have allowed burglars to steal television sets and guns worth 90 dollars from the home of Onie L. Franklin at 1562 150th Ave. They found no signs of forced entry after Mrs. Franklin returned from work yesterday afternoon.
UPH A leaders warned of massive student boycotts if the school board adopts a proposed busing plan for quality equality education. Mathers Support Neighborhood Schools chairwoman Mrs Morris Lewlow cited a recent 77 percent no show at Clarendon Elementary as a sign of things to come. The board, studying a plan to begin large scale integration by busing about 20 elementary schools in two phases starting September 1970, heard nine witnesses for and against the plan.
Capitol Hill sources report the Pentagon plans to reverse a controversial order that barred Army chaplains from referring to God in mandatory troop guidance lectures. The guidance was discussed with defense leaders and circulated among lawmakers after private talks. Pentagon spokesmen did not confirm the report.
California health officials report meningitis cases in the first 12 weeks of 1969 at 227, nearly triple the 1968 level and far above 1967. Dr James Chin notes the rise is epidemic in scope but only a small share of the population is affected, with about four per 100,000 likely to contract the disease.
