News from Europe and War Developments

Deaths and appointments in Dublin and Ireland

Last Monday evening the Rev Mr Hartlibb of Ringsend died. He served as chaplain to the Lord Lieutenant for years and was held in high regard. Last Thursday Dr Roberts of Kevin-street, an Advocate in the Spiritual Court, died. The Rev Dr Owen is made Dean of Clanmackness in place of Dean Dopping who moves to Offory. His Majesty also appoints Lieutenant Armster Pepys as Captain in Bowles's Horse, Cornet Skottowe as Lieutenant, and Col George Leftanquer to command the 700 Irish drafted men for the West India expedition.

Two Pilot Boats Sail from Greenock to Meet Warships

Edinburgh August 31 Two pilot boats with at least six captains of merchantmen sailed from Greenock by government order to rendezvous with the men of war and transports ordered into the Clyde to carry the forces from Scotland to the West Indies for Admiral Vernon. They will proceed to Cork Ireland, where the remaining ships are hastening, and may arrive as soon as the Scottish forces.

Tragic miscarriage after police transport from Salisbury

In Bristol this week a badly pregnant woman, her husband, and a four year old child were driven from Salisbury toward Parith in a cart. Illness worsened and the woman died before a bystander could help. The husband pleaded with drivers to slow, but they pressed on, exposing the body in the cart near Ford Hill and Marshfield. The coroner's jury will hear the case as two drivers are sought.

Executions at Ivechester Warn Authority Against Cruelty

A dated account notes three executions on Wednesday the 16th at Ive Chester. John Watts, 36, condemned for breaking into a house and robbery, proclaims reform and warns others to avoid wicked paths. Sarah Halcomb, 22, condemned for murdering her illegitimate child by dismemberment, blames a young lover and warns against lewd behavior. Peter Battle, 31, executed for stealing 65 sheep.

Vessel arrivals and sailings across English ports in September

Shipping news lists arrivals and departures at Dover, Plymouth, Southampton, Cowes, Deal, and Lancaster with vessels from Jamaica, Madeira, Marseilles, Exeter, London, Guernsey, Jersey, and Riga. Ships include the Vine Bare John and Mary and the Three Friends, with cargoes for the Mediterranean, coal from Biddeford, and convoys awaiting Jamaica.
