Liverpool ships report arrivals from Ireland Jamaica and Antigua while vessels sail to North Yarmouth Rotterdam and Falmouth. Plymouth lists Providence and Dove from Carolina and Cowes trade routes. Paris September 9 report says the Parliament registered the King's Declaration to raise the Dichenne-Denney two shillings per pound on all estates. Remonstrances are urged to delay the levy to January 1, 1742. The Gens du Roy sought Versailles timing to present remonstrances, with the declaration registered yesterday. The tax begins October 1 next.
The Rev Mr Draper of Newent, linked with Merton College Oxford, becomes Domestic Chaplain to the Lord Bishop of Bristol. Gloucester races opened with a Purse won by Mr Martindale’s Chesnut Sodbury. a second purse saw Fluffy win the Plate. Newcastle notes the death of Thomas Greenwell, a dutiful merchant of good integrity.
London reports a fleet of men of war ordered for an expedition commanded by Sir John Norris. The voyage is to set sail by the end of next week, with detailed timing yet to be confirmed.
Report notes the Torrington Man of War and accompanying merchantmen reaching Spithead from Jamaica. It records captain deaths, the burial of four mates with the captain, and the fifth, Mr Widdrington, assuming command. A Bank of Exzland notice from June 1, 1741, details the disappearance of John Waite, a cashi er aged about forty and five feet eight inches tall, missing since May 7. Authorities offer a reward total of 500 pounds for apprehension and safe delivery.
A Bank Note numbered 38 dated 26 Aug 1741 payable to Meff Pepys and Hollinsworth for 100 pounds is mislaid between Aldgate and Jewin Street. A reward of ten guineas is offered for its return to Melk Smith at Cockshute and Comp. or to Notary Thomas Bockings behind the Royal Exchange.
