Letter from a Royal Navy officer in Gibraltar 1739

A long, period voice letter from Somerset in Gibraltar dated December 18, 1739, praising Admirals Haddock and Ogle, detailing prize rewards from the St Joseph, and requesting funds and legal papers to secure shares. Names sailors, ships, and ports including St Joseph, Spithead, Gibraltar, Carolina, Jamaica, Oporto, New York, Barbadoes, Sicily and references to prize law and a power of attorney.

Mansion-House Project Proposals in London

London dated 13 March 1739 reports a Pew Committee appointed by the Common-Council to erect a Mansion-House for the Lord Mayor. The committee will meet at Guildhall on Thursday 20 at ten in the forenoon to receive proposals for cramps chains and chimney-bars and to contract for five tons of pig lead for the building, with details at the Town Clerk's Office.
