Mail From France Describes Noailles Victory at Adchaffenburg

A Paris news report details Marshal Noailles leading 20 000 French troops including king’s household troops to press a rear attack on the Allied lines near Hanau and Adchaffenburg. After three hours the French prevailed, taking cannons and hundreds of prisoners, with notable casualties among officers and nobility. The Duke of Cumberland and other commanders were wounded and many officers killed or wounded.

Robbery on Gaterley Moor Ends with Escape

Edward Davis, clerk to Mr. Lodge, was accosted by a footpad near Bagnardcastle while traveling from Catterick. The highwayman demanded money, Davis offered a 3 pound 12 shillings piece and a few shillings. Davis knocked the robber with his whip during the exchange and escaped, the thief pursuing briefly but missing him.

Dettingen Campaign Report of 1743 Battle and Losses

A post at Whitehall dated June 26 O S 1743 details the Hessian troops under Prince George of Hesse and Hanoverian battalions marching to join the Allied army. The French army under Noailles delays, then clashes at Dettingen with about 30,000 French and 33,000 Allied forces. The engagement lasts two hours in heavy fire, with the French retreating toward Seligenstadt and Kleinevelsheim. Casualties are cited as around 4000 for the French and 1500 for the Allied side, including notable officers. A list of French prisoners and wounded, and the ranks of officers captured, are appended.
