Battle tale of Maltese frigates and Corsairs off Algiers
Yesterday's Mail from Holland reports a dramatic naval encounter several weeks ago off Malaya where two Maltese frigates and five corsairs of Algiers clashed. The Maltese pressed boardings. their men fought fiercely, many killed or wounded, with surrender refused and some choosing to die rather than be enslaved. The Turkish defense aboard the corsair was stubborn and the engagement lasted over an hour and a half before the Maltese finally withdrew.
