Detachment of Turks and Tartars siege near Caspian forts
A lengthy dispatch notes an enemy detachment of six hundred dragoons and Tartars approaching a fortress between the sixth and seventh of the month. They advanced along the Caspian Sea with 300 sealing ladders aboard many armed barks, but were repelled by a 60-strong dragoon and Cossack detachment returning from expedition. Salvo exchanges with Algiers followed, and a Turkish festival proceeded, with Dutch and French officers entertained by local authorities.
