Robbery in Clerkenwell Green leads to pursuit and gunfire
In Whitehall on Sunday at four in the morning five horsemen loaded with goods suspected tea rode past Clerkenwell Green. A constable's staff was raised and one horseman fired, wounding Crawley who lost an arm. Another assailant fired at the constable and watchman. Several pistols discharged at the Wash House door. Richard Croxall, another watchman, died later. Rewards offered for discovery of accomplices. Crawley noted dead.
