LeMars Derby Races Open With Thrilling Day of Contests

Preliminary arrangements for the grand Le Mars Derby brought crowds of around three thousand to the track. Five entrants contested the West Fork plate with Wilde’s firstcatcher leading early before Queen overtook to win. Nipon beat Don Pedro in a tight mile race, and Minnie captured the pony event. An exciting hurdle race saw Sportsman edge Bidger by a length. Andria won the Welter after a dramatic finish as Roxbury and Flateatcher chased. A ball followed the races despite rain, ending a weekend hailed as a complete success by the club and spectators.

Bones found in grove spark murder speculation
