Kittanning Student Plans MIT Enrollment

Richard W. Murphy of Kittanning will enroll at Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Cambridge as a mechanical engineering freshman in September. Valedictorian of Kittanning High School Class of 1963, he declined four other offers while accepting a Pittsburgh Plate Glass Foundation scholarship and a top 1,000 state scholarship not taken due to out-of-state enrollment. Murphy also earned awards from Bausch and Lamb, the National Honor Society, and the Mathematical Association of America, and was invited to serve as a guest page in Harrisburg during the week of June 17.

Tydings to Represent DOJ at Interpol Assembly

U.S. Attorney Joseph D. Tydings of Maryland will be the Justice Department delegate to the 1963 Interpol general assembly in Helsinki Finland August 25 through 28. Attorney General Robert F. Kennedy announced the appointment today.

United Press International reports that 29 of 50 states have public accommodations laws akin to Kennedy's civil rights bill, but enforcement varies. The North and West see de facto segregation protests, while the South faces phase I reforms and other regions push for phase II enforcement.

Impossible is Done Sounds of Vatican Captured on Disc

Martin Haley of St Paul recorded the Vatican for a three hour three LP set titled The Sounds Of The Vatican. The project captured bells traffic, masses, Swiss Guard changes, Vatican fire drills and daily gate traffic with mic setup in Clementine Hall during Pope John XXIII audiences. Haley's crew hauled over a ton of gear from the United States and worked hours to place mics for the ceremonies at the Ecumenical Council closing and canonizations.

Army Pvt Patterson to complete artillery training at Fort Sill

Army Pvt George C Patterson 20, son of Mr and Mrs Robert Patterson of Yatesboro Pa, will complete advanced artillery training as a sound ranging crewman at The Artillery and Missile Center Fort Sill Okla on July 20. He entered service last February after attending Shannock Valley High School.

Election Set For Armstrong County Community Committee Ballot

The Armstrong County ASCS announced mail ballots for community committeemen again this year. A list of candidates will be mailed to eligible voters and must be returned by Sept. 3. Office manager D Richard Hill said interested residents may obtain a petition at the ASCS office to place their name on the ballot.

Fat content in women grows faster with age says study

New York report notes that between ages 30 and 70 a woman's fat content rises 55.3 percent, while men's fat increases 176 percent. Dr. Charlotte M. Young, Cornell program, says women age 16 to 30 have 28.69 percent fat, rising to 41.88 by 60, with skin fold measurements tracking fat gain and lean preservation.
