Dairy Firm Seeks Cheaper Milk to Keep 42 Jobs
Earle R Speice head of the Kittanning dairy plant told the Operating Committee of the Kittanning Area Secondary School System that the firm sought a new milk source to stay in business and avoid layoffs. He noted 12 Armstrong County producers were affected when milk buying shifted to Union City in Erie County and purchases from local producers were stopped, with 18 Indiana County producers also impacted. May was the best month in two years and June looked similar, Speice said, though the overall picture improved only slightly.
