House Debates Weakened School Consolidation Bill
Harrisburg UPI The House plans fast action on a Senate passed bill that weakens Act 561. Rep Edwin Eshelman Lancaster said July 9 will be a motion to bring the measure before the House for action while ruling out major changes before the July 31 adjournment deadline. The bill would reduce local districts from 2100 to 531 by 1966 but retains long term goals of 2500 and allows exemptions for some districts. The Senate approved the measure 27 23 after Democratic attempts to modify it. See Page Two.

Gettysburg Educator Named Principal At Kittanning High School
Clifford B. Snowberger of Gettysburg has been appointed principal of Kittanning Senior High School, starting August 1. He holds a Geneva College B S and a University of Pittsburgh master's, will earn 8700 annually with moving expenses up to 400. Snowberger succeeds Andrew Campbell who resigned April 15.

Big Rigs In Rt 28 Collision Near Kittanning
Two large trucks collided yesterday afternoon on Route 28 about eight miles south of Kittanning. Kenneth Sarver, 26, of Cabot sustained an injured right arm and required medical care, while Thomas Gray of East Brady Road, driving for Bauer Co., was uninjured. Troopers estimated $500 in damages to the tractor-trailer rig.

Kennedy says Communists step up U.S. espionage cases

Kennedy said the Soviets are expanding spy activity as four people, including a Soviet U.N. staffer, were arrested in New York and Washington on charges of conspiring to steal U.S. military secrets. Architect Dies In Window Fall In Indiana Theater Building
James Kenneth Scheeren, 39, a Ford City raised architect, died after falling from a fourth floor window in the Indiana Theater Building. He was dead on arrival at Indiana Hospital after being found unresponsive. Coroner Dr. H C Long ruled the death accidental, citing a skull fracture and other injuries. No one was with him at the time.

Youths Held In Theft Of Dynamite
Two 15 year old Lucinda youths were arrested on theft charges after taking 41 sticks of dynamite from an old abandoned coal mine on the L. A. Nick farm near Lucinda Clarion County Sheriff Eugene Daugherty said the dynamite was later sold to Morgan A. Jones of Lucinda RD for $2. Jones claimed no payment. Five sticks were used to blast rocks from his driveway and the rest were recovered and will be returned to the owner. The youths face arraignment at 10:30 a.m. today before a justice of the peace with a settlement anticipated.
