Worthington killer recaptured after five hour kidnapping spree
Howard Otis Lowery, 25, the man convicted of the 1960 rifle slaying near Worthington, escaped from University Hospital in Oklahoma City and led a five hour nationwide chase. He abducted six hostages, hijacked a taxi and two cars, and forced store clerks to hand over weapons and cash before police recaptured him in Watonga.

Police say he accosted an 11-year-old girl at 4 45 p m Tuesday in Buffalo Two Butler County as she walked home from school after alighting from a bus. The girl screamed and was not harmed. Alderman Harold Armstrong of Butler filed the charges.
