In Pillsbursa on April 1 L Quarters, 42, senr driving for the county Work house. Frank Graf received a sentence of twelve years for drunken driving and three counts of manslaughter. Sentences run concurrently. Juror testimony and medical details referenced.
A battered weather note reports wet windy conditions lingering tonight with a forecast of cooler, cloudy Sunday. Temperatures slipped to 26 early this morning and 32 at 7 am. the high today is expected near 30 with rain likely in the afternoon and a fall in overnight temperatures.

John Devalence, a retired lumber worker, was found dead outside his cabin four miles north of Clarion on April 1 1951. Firefighters said his clothes were smoldering and a neighbor saw flames from the cabin. Coroner W P Geary ruled the death accidental, with evidence he used oil or kerosene to hasten the coal stove fire. The victim’s granddaughter Bud Wilshire of Clarion noted he spent winter in a Clarion hotel before returning to the cabin near Hola. Devalence had worked as a lumberman and raftsman on the Clarion River.

The condition of Allerney Wade Heilman, a patient in Armstrong County Hospital for several weeks, was described today by hospital authorities as critical. He had shown some improvement since admission and is suffering from a heart ailment.

Speaker Sam Rayburn argued the United States must provide economic strength to allies to deter a future conflict on American soil. The House approved the measure 287 to 86, eyeing Senate action soon.
Steve Rancher of 213 Queen Street, Kittanni, died at Armstrong County Hospital Friday afternoon at 2 30 from a concussion after a fall in his home. Police believe a misstep sent him down the stairs from second to first floor early that morning. he died about five hours after admission.
The United Presbyterian church annual congregations meeting was held Friday night. Reports on activities of church groups were heard and routine business transacted. Officers elected included trustee Harry Dimit, jr. juditer Fred Pete ers, treasurer Herbert Milligan, Sunday School superintendent Don Minteer, SS secretary Shirley Bowser, assistant secretary Irade Swigart, and treasurer Merle Whitehead. Luke R. Corbett Sr. of Ford City was ordered by Judge J Frank Graff to pay $70 monthly for support of his wife and daughter amid a charge of desertion and non support filed by his wife Sarah.
Miss Josm Russell of Hamden was chosen queen of a three tier Cherry Blossom festival amid forecasts of 250000 spectators. The pageant featured 30 contestants from territories including Alaska Hawaii and Puerto Rico with Secretary of Navy Francis P Matthews slated to crown. The festival runs through the weekend despite wintry weather delaying blossom peaks.
Marion Li Shoffner, a Pitt junior and daughter of Mr and Mrs John Shoffner of 332 Allegheny Avenue, was rushed to Municipal Hospital Pittsburgh after sudden meningitis symptoms at about 2 a m Friday. She had been active with the Pitt Girls team Thursday night and no visitors are being admitted.
WEIN was off the air today after 16 months of operation. The 1,000 watt transmitter ceased at sign off yesterday. WEIN began in early December 1948 on 1600 kilocycles. Ownership was vested in a corporation with offices at 133 N. Jefferson Street. The transmitter tower stood about two miles from Huenning near the antique.
Auditor General Weldon B Hey announced approval of semi annual payments to three Armstrong county school districts for public school support. In Armstrong, Ale shetiv Belver Adlants and Philadelphia districts received funds, with Kittanning Borough getting the highest county payment at 69 and Ford City at 27 6 along with Cowanshannock township totaling 52640.38.
Kittanning Telephone reports its subscriber list doubled since 1940, adding over 1,000 customers last year. Ben Schotte, the general manager, says about 1,000 unfilled orders remained at year's start, with rapid backorder fulfillment planned. Last year gained 1,660 subscribers from 2,100 new telephones, bringing total to 14,050, roughly doubling Bell system growth over a decade.
Washington report says the Senate confirmed the nomination of Thomas E B Murray of New York to be a member of the Atomic Energy Commission. He will fill the post but not the chairmanship vacated February 15 by David Lilienthal. The vote was unanimous with no dissent.
