Fatal Collision Near Kansas City Claims Several Lives

A northbound passenger train and a freight train collided 15 miles southeast of Kansas City Missouri in the morning. Four people were killed and four injured. The dead include B F Reddick engineer and Charles Rider fireman with others named or unidentified. The injured include Fred W Laker engineer and L P Halleck postal clerk among others. Most victims were from Springfield Missouri.

Boers Are Prepared for Possible Hostilities

London dispatch notes Great Britain's relations with the Transvaal remain unchanged and no new phase is expected until after Friday's cabinet council. The Morning Post from Pietermaritzburg on September 19 quotes Boers as saying they differ their response two days of rain before hostilities, asserting they are deter mined and prepared to face consequences.

Washington September 20 The pay ment has directed that the Bugle and Yankton be accepted at the Portmount navy yard by October 17 as they are for survey work about Cuba and Price and will be thus employed after. The navy department has on the contract for building the Port dock to John Pierce of New York at $1 089 000.

The war department received Gen Davis circular for Porto Rico inhabitants detailing how to profit from the hurricane by beautifying cities and improving sanitation. It prescribes brick and stone for first division buildings, mixed materials or wood for the second, and lighter thatched or bark-roofed structures in the third, with limits on inhabitants per lot and other regulations.
