Labor Party Seeks Fusion For Governor Bid

Special to the Inter Mountain reports the Labor Party backing Dan McDonald of Butte for governor and aiming for a triple fusion with populists and bank Democrats. Delegations from eight counties support McDonald. Missoula split between Ferguson and McDonald. The party also seeks the school superintendency with W. W. Welch as candidate, and leadership roles are assigned as conventions open in Helena with Bishop McDonald and Corbett among organizers.

Howard Defense Opens in Frankfort Murder Case

The Howard defense began presenting testimony in the Frankfort Kentucky case. Attorney Little outlined a plan to show Howard borrowed money to go home after leaving Frankfort and received no money for killing Gort or any other source. Records indicate he never received a penny though the Commonwealth claims money and reward were his. Howard broadly contradicted incriminating statements from James Stubblefield and other witnesses about alleged remarks concerning the murder of Gochel.

Terrible Yukon storm wrecked steamers list read at Seattle

The C. H. Hamilton carrying 160 passengers and 500000 in dust ran aground on a Yukon beach Sept 6 during a storm, later freed and reaching St Michael. Reports spread of another wreck but North American Trading and Air Portation Co said she remained safe. Nome losses included Hulk Catherine Sudden and schooner Sequoim blown ashore. Soggy Night Rocks Coast as Vessels Run Aground

A fierce storm drove several ships ashore including the schooners Harriet Molth and Arthur B on beaches near Penny River and West of the depot. Tents and buildings on the beach were swept away, with Alaska Commercial Company wharf and Captain Geiger's Latrina wrecked. Injured Paul Borchard had a severe leg injury, a buoy rolled ashore causing a compound fracture. Two men reportedly drowned, Captain Johnson and 1 Boud of San Francisco, while Captain J D Thackberry of Portland age 60 perished aboard Alaska run.

Mitchell Announces 126000 of 141000 Coal Workers Idle

President Mitchell of the United Mine Workers reports from Hazelton that about 126000 of 141000 anthracite coal workers are idle today. Strike leaders vow all mines will be fed up by week’s end, with coal production at a standstill.

More Men Go Out at Shamokin Collieries

Shamokin September 19 One thousand more miners employed at five collieries opened by the Philadelphia and Reading company ceased work today at Mount Carmel stations.
