Imperial decree dated November 12 strips Prince Tuan and Prince Chwang of rank and offices and orders imprisonment for life. Princes Yih and Ining are imprisoned, Lien deprived of rank, and Duke Lan degraded. Chao Shu Chiao retained in office but degraded. Yu Helen exiled. Tuan’s son cannot succeed as emperor. The move may hasten formal peace talks.

Tear Down the Dewey Arch At Madison Square

At midnight in New York a dozen men using pickaxes crowbars and shovels began removing the Dewey arch at Madison Square near Twenty Fifth Street. They stripped the pedestal revealed the column skeleton and wrecked the woodwork while relic seekers gathered hoping to claim pieces of the sculptured Victory. The operation was directed by a streets and highways department foreman.

G B Swinehart of Nome reports Alaska Indians face mass deaths this winter unless government assistance is extended. The Peabody Museum in New Haven gains a notable collection of Egyptian artifacts donated by Connecticut members of the American Archaeological Society.
