Inheritance Tax Challenge Heard in Chicago Court
In Chicago on May 23 Judge Carter heard the constitutionality challenge to the inheritance tax law brought by the heirs of Albert M. Billings valued at 7.5 million dollars. The case argues the tax applies only to restricted heirs under a will and favors linear descendants, potentially voiding the act as unequal under state constitutional provisions. The court took the matter under advisement with a decision expected in a few weeks, and the losing side plans to appeal.
