Horrific rear end collision kills and injures many

Reading Pa May 13. A deadly rear end collision on the Philadelphia Reading railroad near Exeter, six miles below Reading, killed about twenty five and wounded around forty. A crowded Harrisburg to Philadelphia express was struck by a second section, amid un VEILing of the Hartranft monument events, with bodies brought to Reading and Norristown for identification and aid.

Engineer recalls deadly cannon ball wreck in Pennsylvania

Philadelphia May 13 Three cars of the ill fated section crashed into the first section of the cannon ball express at Exeter last night. Engineer Orrell and fireman Everett survived with injuries. Dozens more were hurt and many taken to hospitals in Norristown and Pottsville. The engineer described reversing the lever too late as the rear collision sent the parlor car into the day coach.
