Insurgent Fire Wrecks Troilo as U S Forces Hold

A Bancolood dispatch reports insurgent incendiaries wrecked Troilo after a short voyage by the St Paul. General Miller’s forces, aided by Col James F P Smith, prepare to defend the town with about 2,000 armed insurgents and 2,000 bolas believed in the area. The St Paul reached Bascolood with Americans observing a native arch of honor and the flag flying from an unfinished convent.

Soldiers Glad to Come Home From Cuba Parade Returns

New York March 10 A special wireless from Havana reports the Merald from Havana and the transport Michigan carried the First Maine heavy artillery home to Savannah. They are the first troops repatriated from Cuba and celebrated on deck with cries of Good-bye Cuba. The 202nd New York regiment will sail Saturday on the Minnewaska to Triconia across the bay. The Third Georgia and the Twelfth New York follow, the former from Trisconta and the latter from Matanzas. A Havana street paving contract known as Taylor’s has been acquired by FP Hawley for a New York syndicate. The government railroad from Triconia to Matanzas should be finished by Saturday. Warehouse work slows due to labor disputes. Cuban rum is blamed for the trouble.
