Four New Smallpox Cases in Copper City Colored District
Four new smallpox cases appeared in the Copper City’s colored colony, traced to the Alhambra colored club on Oak Street where Snowball had spread the disease. No quarantine was imposed, allowing further spread to two nearby houses near the club and a small house on Locust Street near the depot. The county jail was fumigated with sulfur and old bedding burned, as city officials and staff avoided public contact during the cleanup.
