Naval bill to be reduced in senate report

Washington March 1 The naval appropriation bill as reported to the senate provides for a material reduction of warship numbers while maintaining armor price. It lowers the number of battleships and cruisers and limits construction to two vessels per yard. The bill carries a total appropriation of 4092943 with a net increase of 3288381 over the house plan. Principal increases include 800000 for dry docks 1157800 for the marine corps 375000 for the Brooklyn navy yard and 750000 for a Brooklyn steam plant. The act allowing four granite docks is fixed at 2100000 per dock with an $800000 immediate addition. Equipment funds rise to 400000 from 200900. The fortifications measure is reported without change.
