Remains Removed From Lunalilo Tomb In Hawaii

Honolulu reports that the tomb of Lunalilo the barefoot king of Hawaii was opened and the remains removed. The metal casket contained only grave clothes fragments. It is believed natives may have buried the body in a mountain grave after a thunder storm at burial day. Lunalilo, elected king in 1874, died 13 months later of consumption and left his fortune to a home for aged Hawaiians by will opened in 1881.

Two Men Murdered in Arkansas Livestock Dispute

A Fayetteville courier reports a village melee near Strickland 10 miles south where James Herrick shot John Hinkle with a shotgun. Hinkle returned fire and both died. Herrick’s younger brother stabbed a Hinkle ally, left critically injured. All men were in the livestock trade. one Hinkle family member is under arrest. The two dead have families.

The Bandits Known Price Trah June 4. Deputies seek Cassady Flea Lay and Old Tom McCarty leaders of the Robbers Roost gang over the Colfax Wyoming Union Pacific robbery. They were sighted near the hold up days before and suspected of planning another raid, Sheriff Allred involved.

A county figure tied to several gang members warned railroad authorities that a Rio Grande Western train holding operation might occur. The Union Pacific flyer was stopped and a safe robbed, with the robbers' roost area cited as crowded by copper prospectors and difficult for the gang to operate.

Fight With Robbers in Hole-In-The-Wall Region

Sheriff Hazen of Converse County and a posse battled a group of Union Pacific train robbers in a gulch yesterday. The outlaws abandoned their horses, hid behind rocks, and fought fiercely. Hazen was shot in the body and taken toward Casper as reinforcements mobilize. The region braces for further action to capture the bandits.

Modern Woodmen Convention Opens in Kansas City

The Modern Woodmen of America opens its greatest convention in Kansas City with 10,000 members already in town. By Thursday, a parade with 20 brass bands, team contests, and an address by William J. Bryan are expected to draw at least 25,000 visitors as the city wears carnival adornments. The opening session featured routine welcomes from Governor Stanley, Mayor Jones, and the formation of committees.
