The state charges A J Schumacher with assaulting physician G Leo Hagen Burger in his office after he sought an itemized bill. The preliminary hearing in Justice Nichols' court began and was not finished by 4 pm with testimony from the complainant and four more witnesses scheduled.

A May 28 lynching in Henderson County is tied to eight farmers and cattle raisers jailed in Athens. Rewards totaling about 5 000 are offered by the state and county. Preliminary hearings are postponed to next week.
