Fire Chief Tracks Incendiary Barn Fires in Missoula

Fire Chief Walling conducted detective work on a series of arson barn fires in Missoula. A man was seen leaving the Lombard barn and meeting another who passed him a coat before they disappeared along an alley. Walling pursued the trail about a mile by the river but lost it. Several barns have burned in six to eight weeks, all deemed incendiary by authorities. The fire last week was contained before threatening Dr. Mills’s barn, with extinguishing efforts using two water streams in thirty eight minutes. The Missoula County Republican club held a meeting at E A Winstanley’s office under the First National Bank building, drawing an enthusiastic crowd and plans to raise funds to cover club expenses.
