Rebels Sally at San Fernando Opens Fire in Rain

At Manila dated July 1 7 55 p m rebels made a night sally against the north line to harass Americans. An American private of the Seventeenth Regiment was killed and four wounded. Rebels fired rockets as a signal to cease fire but scattered shots kept troops on alert all night. Hancock transport sails for home with 740 Nebraska and 240 Utah soldiers remain, most reenlisting, after a month in the trenches.

A cablegram from Colonel Mulford says the First Nebraska sailed from Manila for home this morning. Governor Poynter issued a proclamation calling Nebraskans to give returning soldiers a fitting welcome on their return.

Pittsburg July 1 The reported strike at the Homestead steel works has not occurred yet but workers are stirred by the discharge of Amalgamated Association members who met Superintendent Corey to demand the fired men be rehired. South Butte Presbyterian Church Opens Parsonage

At a congregation meeting the church was renamed the South Butte Presbyterian Church. A public reception followed the new parsonage opening funded by Ren J. Groeneveld.
