Naval Personnel Bill faces Senate review this coming week
Washington dispatch says Senate Naval Committee expects action soon on the naval personnel bill. Supporters foresee favorable moves but fear dangerous amendments. The Navy favors passing the measure as in the House with or without Senate consent provisions for volunteer officers under three years who served in the war. The president could assign such appointments within two years, but only a limited number may be needed. Navy orders retire most officers not on prize duty and direct them home.
