Confession Admitted in Persinger Murder Trial Evidence
The state closed its case in the Persinger murder trial as defense witnesses began, focusing on a contested confession by Benson. The court ruled the confession admissible to prove conspiracy, while limiting its direct evidentiary impact. The defense argued the statements did not implicate Persinger, but the judge directed jurors on its relevance. The testimony included Benson detailing movements from Helena to Nevada Creek and Cullinane’s home, with Dotson and Persinger alleged to have planned robbing Cullinane. The defense challenged the confession’s applicability while the state prepared to bolster its conspiracy theory. The trial continued with Acting Coroner A. C. Glover testifying and questions about inquest witnesses and jurors.
