Richer lands case settled in favor of Ireland

Washington and St Paul report that the interior secretary affirmed the land office decision in the famous Archbishop Tr e land case affecting 28178 acres in Minnesota. Under the 1880 contract the St Paul Minnesota Manitoba railroad was the buyer, while under the 1883 contract the archbishop was buyer. Lands from the first contract stay with Ireland, those from the second go to him. the case settles long unsettled titles and affects settlers who obtained homes. A separate note from Nashville reports a lethal feud between the Eddy of Virginia and Ramsey families near the Tennessee border, lasting hours with multiple fatalities and injuries.

Dr Arthur Scott Dies in Clifton After Illness

Arthur Scott, a member of the Fifth legislative assembly, died at his Clifton home from pneumonia. Born in 1842 in Birmingham, Pa., he served as speaker of Kansas territorial house, was Civil War surgeon for the Tenth Kansas, later a railroad promoter, and Indian agent to Ponca, Pawnee, and Nez Perce under President Arthur.

Noted Confederate Dead in San Francisco

Pam Berger died in San Francisco at age 12 years. He served on the staffs of Gen. Joseph E. Johnson and Jeff Davis during the Civil War and was secretary to the president of the Confederacy. A well known local politician and expert penman.
