Two Inquests Held By Coroner Jullien On Mine Deaths

Coroner Jullien presided over two inquests yesterday. The first covered the deaths of Joseph Maxwell and Joe Milnovich from a giant powder blast at the Colusa Parrot mine on Sunday morning. The second inquiry reviewed the Mountain Con explosion last Saturday, in which Peter Sullivan and Thomas Smith died. The testimony matched earlier reports. Deputy State Mining Inspector Hunter said miners should have waited to spit holes until Sullivan and Smith emerged. The jury ruled the accident unavoidable.
