Terre Haute Indiana January 16 Captain William Taylor of Terre Haute has filed a claim against the government for $72000. Congressman George W Faris will handle the case. During the conflict Taylor piloted vessels aiding the Union canal and river operations near New Orleans and entered the capital to present the claim after Farragut’s forces. He aided Farragut’s line passes and served as a naval pilot until the war’s end. He narrowly escaped guerrilla attacks, and both parents were killed by guerrillas. He has never presented the claim before but expects indemnity for the vessels involved.
