Dr. A W Appleby a longtime Hampton physician killed a 10 month old child of Henry Wearly in Dr Hobson's office during a medical examination. He twisted the child's head and swung it by a foot before dying. Neighbors and the child's parents protested as Appleby, later deemed insane, was taken to the hospital for the insane at Independence. He defends using national banks as treasury depositories to avoid disturbing business, cites revenue surpluses, and explains why all internal revenue receipts go to one depository. He notes selection of National City bank among few able to cover daily deposits and asserts no discrimination among banks during his tenure.

Portland Kennel Club forms in Portland Ore

A group of dog owners met in Portland Oregon and organized the Portland Kennel club. Officers elected were Walter F. Burrell president Frederick V. Holman vice president R Lee Barnes treasurer and directors Dr F Cauthorn T J A Lischmann William Peasley. The club plans to apply for members and join the Pacific Kennel league and to hold a bench show in Portland in March. A northwest circuit will permit Portland exhibitors to show in Victoria Vancouver BC and other major cities.
