A Philadelphia court adjourned the Quay conspiracy trial to April 10 on motion by District Attorney Rothermel.

Army investigates beef in travel rations during Cuban voyage

Washington, Feb. 27. Army court of inquiry heard Lt. Charles F. Dwyer recall meat rations on the Tampa to Santiago voyage. Soldiers had bacon canned beef and roast beef. complaints about canned roast beef noted but no action. After Santiago, fresh refrigeration reduced issues. Retired Substinence head Robert D. McFelley advocated a regular travel ration to end the period of meager fare known as cooked mutton. Colonel Davis cited 1878 orders confirming roast beef as travel ration.

Total exports valued at 16 046 746 and imports at 11 650 800, with a net gain of 3 968 262 mainly from the United States. Special to the Inter Mountain from Helena dated February 27 reports the Montana senate in committee of the whole passed many house appropriation bills and postponed Senator Courtney’s library bill and small sums for J H W Sanders reward and board of charities. Senator Hobson urged in a joint resolution that Montana's congressman push Bruce Wallace of the First Montana for brigadier general due to his Caloocan bravery while the senate later debated more bills on third reading pending.

Kipling in Critical Condition at New York Hospital

New York report states at 6 a.m. Kipling's condition unchanged while oxygen had been given several times since midnight. At 6 45 a.m. F N Doubleday left Kipling's room saying no marked change. By 1 p.m. the patient remained unchanged though the sick room showed more activity.
