Murderer Hanged After Murdering Friend in Wasco

W H Magers was executed in The Dalles for killing his former employer Ray Sink near Wasco in 1898 to rob him. Sink, a Wasco county farmer, disappeared September 1898 and his mutilated body was found in the Willamette River near Salem on September 20. Magers, 25, tied hands and feet and weighted the body, was seen with Sink in Bend on September 13 before he vanished. Magers had prior prison time for horse larceny in 1896.

Opening of 1900 Campaign in Portland Narrative

A Portland conference among William Jennings Bryan and key allies declared Bryan’s eastern trip a success and opened the 1900 campaign.
