Army promotions eyed in Congress reorganization plan

A Washington dispatch reports at least 25 regiments to be commanded by new colonels and 26 lieutenant colonels promoted as Congress reorganizes the army. The House passed a bill with Senate committee approval increasing five cavalry and five infantry regiments, with artillery up five as well. Burglars Blow Open Wichand Bank Safe

In Madison Ohio burglars tried to rob the Wichand Bank and blew open the safe but fled before taking contents. A man who found them was seized bound and gagged. The gang is suspected to be active in Ohio and Indiana. Citizens pursue them to end the operations. The safe held a large sum of money.

Cleveland reports the home of Frank H. Morris, shot and killed in Washington, was in Morris, Ohio. Formerly a prominent Republican, he led in business here, served three years as auditor of the Navy Department, then held a similar post in the War Department. He was about 50 years old.

Fire consumes dairy home. four children perish

In San Jose a dwelling owned by dairyman Conrad Ruff burned this morning killing four of his children. Two other children and Mrs. Ruff were badly burned. Separately in New York a five year old girl, Carrie Hanley, who was burned at Public School No. 4 yesterday while playing Santa Claus, died today.
