Disturbed the Peace by Railing at an English Sailor
In police court a six year veteran who fought with Dewey at Manila admitted fighting after arguing with an English sailor who claimed the American navy could be defeated by two English men of war. The judge praised his patriotism and discharged him with thanks and a prompt warning to repeat such defense of the flag if needed. Others, including Josie Palmer, William Stinson, and Tony Antone, faced fines for assault, disturbing the peace, or receiving evasive sentences, with varied penalties from $5 to $20 and jail in default.
