Ceded Strip Tax Battle Ends With Lewis and Clarke Claim
Deer Lodge county cannot collect taxes on 600 acres of Northern Pacific land in the ceded strip. Special counsel advised that the territory has belonged to Lewis and Clarke county since June 1, and all taxes must be collected by that county. An order redirected the Deer Lodge assessment to Lewis and Clarke, and a specific property improvement assessment was equalized from 500 to 300 dollars.

Settlers Win Historic Deer Lodge County Land Case
In a landmark decision the settlers south of Anaconda’s cane rate limits gain title to the Horse Shoe Naver area. The land, once allotted differently, sparks a dispute over mineral content. Attorneys for the settlers argued the 87 acres, described as the north half of the northeast quarter and northwest quarter of section 10, should remain theirs, with 16 acres split into 20 acre parcels to verify mineral rights.

A Chicago poet and a friend discuss a plan tied to a father's supposed promise. The pair consider whether the father will eject the suitor when he calls, betting on the father's adherence to his threat and on the outcome with the girl.
