Telegram from Chicago reports the death of General A C McClurg today in St Augustine Florida. He headed the A C McClure publishing house in Chicago and was a Civil War veteran rising to colonel with a brigadier general brevet. He was born in Philadelphia and grew up in Pittsburgh, studied at Miami University and law in Pennsylvania. He moved to Chicago in 1859 and had recent health declines before his passing.
Washington mourns the death of April McMahon at the Catholic university. The 1 year old man, with a long New York life in his past, had no official ties to the university. Born in Ireland, he came to America decades ago. no funeral arrangements have been announced. Mgr. Jose offers brief remarks.
The United States Supreme Court ruled that the war revenue law taxing export bills of lading is unconstitutional. Justice Brewer wrote the opinion with Justices Harlan Gray White and McKenna declining. The decision comes in the Fairbank v. United States case dated April 15 in Washington.
