Fire in Fifth Avenue mansion kills many in wealthy district

At 1 am a five story home at No 2 East Sixty seventh street owned by Wallace Andrews, president of the New York Steam Heating company, burned. Six bodies were recovered from the ruins and several others missing. Police and firemen rescued occupants of neighboring mansions while heroic actions by a policeman saved a unknown woman from a fourth floor window. The blaze spread rapidly, gutting the Andrews house and threatening nearby properties including the Armoury and Rothschild residences. Mr Andrews and his wife were unaccounted for.

Deadly 67th Street fire claims multiple residents
