Wounded Koreans at Hamilton Ward Five in Marin

In Ward Five at Hamilton Air Base Marin a group of 51 US troops wounded in Korea are resting before further transfers. Among them are Private Robert Cain from Canistoga and Private Mayfield of Dayton both praised for courage and medical care. Also featured are Corporal Heinrich from Bellevue and other soldiers awaiting treatment at Percy Jones and Brooks hospitals. Morrison Named New NWP General Manager In San Francisco

George L. Morrison, longtime Southern Pacific engineer and official, will become vice president and general manager of the Northwestern Pacific Railroad’s Redwood Empire Route next Sunday, succeeding retiring C. A. Veale after 48 years with the system. Morrison succeeds Veale, who retires after 48 years with NWP and SP. The change was announced in San Francisco by D. J. Russell. Morrison’s headquarters will be in San Francisco while Veale’s headquarters are in San Rafael. Morrison has 38 years in engineering and operating roles, most recently as SP maintenance of way and structures assistant engineer, with service across the Pacific and Texas-Louisiana regions. The Redwood Empire route covers Sausalito to Arcata with freight operations and one daily passenger run. Veale previously led the Interurban Electric Railway and served on SP executive boards. Morrison is a Rice Institute civil engineer graduate.

Marin college boys pass deferment tests for draft postponement

Seventy plus Marin College of Marin students aged 67 draft age reportedly passed a college aptitude test used to gauge deferment eligibility. The Marin draft board will review results from 106 tests, with 38 failing, and decide on July 11 whether to grant deferments as policy regulations from Washington are awaited.

Armistice Proposal Discussed By Soviet and UN Chiefs

Reed School Contract Bids Opened Tonight

Reed Union elementary school bids will be opened by the district board of trustees. The project on the old Avilla ranch along Tiburon highway plans a wood and concrete structure with six classrooms and an administration unit for about 200 students in grades three through eight. Budget set at 100000 dollars. completion possible by January 1952.

Cause Of Fire Still Unknown In San Anselmo

San Anselmo Fire Chief Nello Marcucci and Police Chief Don Wood said plans call for 20 further investigations into the death of Mrs Janet Bernhardy 47 after a Tuesday fire at her home 11 Rosemont Avenue. Authorities report second and third degree burns as the cause.

Redwoods Group Gives $1000 For Bishop Pines

Marin Conservation League aims to raise 10000 by public subscription to help Marin County meet its 26000 cash share for a state park on the west shore of Tomales Bay.
