Private funeral services were held today at St. John's Church in Ross for Jane Maggard Dickson 34 of Black Point a longtime newspaperwoman who attended the church since childhood. Rev Harold Hallet and Dr John Leffler officiated at the Episcopal service with burial rites from the Book of Common Prayer.

Rescued Death by Own Action From Marin City Noted Bigamist

Two Marin County police officers saved James A. Ellsworth of Marin City after an overdose of sleeping tablets. He was revived at the hospital and jailed for investigation of bigamy as two women presented themselves claiming to be his wives. Ellsworth had left death notes to both women and to his employer in San Francisco. He had married Katherine in Reno in 1943 and Mildred in Carson City in December of the current year. they have three children.

Ranch Foreman Held In Christmas Eve Killing

A ranch foreman is held after the Christmas Eve killing of Jane Maggard Dickson 34 at her Black Point farm home. The victim was a society columnist and Bay Area socialite. her husband Frederick Dickson II 37 hunted nearby. Staff and guests including a maid, a ranch family, and workers were present. The crime occurred in a rural dairy area with a warning road sign nearby.

Funeral Tomorrow For E R Samuels Ex Supervisor

Funeral services honor Ernest R. Samuels Novato pioneer and former Marin County supervisor who died Sunday at Petaluma General Hospital at age 84. Died after a week in hospital from a lingering heart condition. Survived by daughter Mildred Samuels and Janet Chaban, plus two sisters. wife Miriam preceded him in death. He served part of a term in 1930 and later retired 13 years ago. Burial and memorials per Druid lodge.

Violent Death Toll Tops 500 During Christmas Holiday

At least 568 violent deaths were reported during a three day Christmas period with another long weekend ahead. California had 40 deaths and Michigan 62 while Texas logged 60. About one fatality every eight minutes from 6 p m Friday to midnight Monday. The report cites traffic fires and other accidents, mentions Marin injuries, a drunk driving charge against James Gaunt, and a three car crash near Alto Wye involving Gino Bucchianeri and others.

Marin's twin towns Corte Madera and Larkspur show steady growth in 1949 with major road paving and extension projects. Corte Madera spent about 20000 dollars on a main street repaving and Madera Gardens subdivision expanded with 34 new dwellings. Four babies born to Yohai family in nine months span

Mr and Mrs Jesse Yohai welcomed their second set of twins within ten months. On the day after their third anniversary twins Jeffrey and Michael arrived weighing just over five and a half pounds. Mother and babies are reported doing fine. Last February 9 a twin birth of girls occurred.

Lang Family Rescued From Carbon Monoxide Fumes

A San Rafael Christmas gathering at the R. D. Lang home on San Pedro road used a coke brazier in the garden room. Two adults collapsed and four children were overcome by fumes but quickly revived after doors and windows were opened. Lang warned that brazier use indoors is dangerous and should not be repeated.

Horsemen To Ride In Parade Of Roses

Two Marin members of the Contra Costa County Sheriff's Posse ride in the Pasadena Tournament of Roses parade on January 2. Vern Dwelly of Novato and Beverly A. Sill of San Anselmo, both part of the silver mounted posse led by Sheriff John A. Miller. Sill was elected a director for the coming year at a Novato dinner meeting. Dwelly is a past captain.
