A Mill Valley man clung to the windy girders of the Golden Gate Bridge to rescue 43 year old Los Altos woman Esther Griffin who had jumped from the railing and lay unconscious on a narrow girder about 200 feet above the water.
A small white dog courted by poundmen charms a boy who hands it over. Marin County reports praise for office decorations while Captain Bernard rescues a woman at a bridge after she jumps. Mrs Griffin, suffering head and hip injuries, survives. notes in her car reference a San Francisco utility worker and family members.
San Rafael stores announce revised late hours with operations open until 6 p.m. each Friday and Saturday. Roy Michael, chairman of the Saturday night opening committee, voted to close that evening to extend the Christmas weekend for employees and their families.

San Rafael prepares a 14 acre Woodl and avenue site purchase for a new junior high school at 110000 from the Smith brothers. Negotiations continue for remaining 4 acres to reach 18 acres. The school bond of 18000 must pass by January 30 to unlock a million dollar state grant and fund the district’s building program.
The San Rafael Board of Education opened bids for Santa Venetia and Sun Valley schools finding costs likely about 18 percent above state estimates. Francies Construction Co. bid low for Sun Valley at 146 618 and 293 700 for Santa Venetia. B and R Construction Co. bid a combined 425 974. Twenty-two alternates were proposed and will be considered with awards.
Pvt. Howard E K Williams 18 of 543 Ethel Ave Mill Valley is reported on the mend at Mare Island hospital after frost bite and shell fragment wounds in Korea. He served with Marin Company C Marine Corps Reserves and earlier fought in the northern Korea reservoir conflict. A Tamalpais High School student, he is the son of Mrs Ada Williams.
Theodore Fink head of a ten member Missouri family stranded near Alto will start as an insulator at Pacific Weatherstrip and Insulation in El Cerrito earning 1.75 dollars an hour. The family received gifts including milk clothing and a hotel offer while awaiting car repair and housing in the East Bay. Reunions with relatives and plans to seek medical aid for Judith Ann are noted as funds and shelter are arranged.
The Reed school board heard revised plans for a six room Reed school with administration quarters a nurse and conference space. Plans aim for state department presentation in January. Contracts for nine acres on Avilla ranch Tiburon valued about 25000 dollars are before the district attorney for approval.
