A court suit may be filed against Alto couple for refusing to pay sewer line repair costs. Deputy District Attorney Gordon Smith said two letters were sent to Mrs Lottie McDermand demanding payment. The McDermands attended a district meeting but refused responsibility, claiming the obstruction was in the line before they bought the house. An investigation traced the problem to the sewer line obstruction.
A Marin study finds tree control ineffective and divisive. Vice Chairman Stuart Rose warns against a tree control ordinance or committee in Sausalito. The city council received the report and took no action or comment.
Alto residents not in any assessment district will pay a 65 dollar connection fee to join the public sewer system. The Goheen tract area is exempt where assessments have already covered the line. Belvedere residents approved a measure 115 to 93 to empower the city council to raise the general tax rate from 1 to 1.50 per 100 assessed value. Only about 208 of 450 eligible voters cast ballots. Council meets at 8 pm today to canvass results. San Francisco judge awarded John P White sixty thousand dollars in a damage judgment for injuries from a 1946 shell explosion at Camp Beale. White a Sausalito scrap dealer alleged government negligence in leaving an unexploded shell on the range while he collected scrap metal. He sought six thousand three hundred eighty eight dollars in damages.
Tam high psychologist Ramona Wallace reports five years of work with 370 students and notes many have gained insight into feelings and coping. She urges community agencies support, a well staffed family unit, a probation department to intervene early, and a psychiatric clinic for serious cases, while stressing most students are normal for adolescents.
The San Rafael Board of Education adopted a budget exceeding 1 million dollars for the 1951 83 school year, with a total of 1 187 721 34.
