Local business promotions fill the page with sales and specials from Schafer Wood Meyers Nash and Schafer again featuring wares from watches to hosiery underwear corsets and woolen fabrics. City officials meet to approve district plans while school and church notices outline exams sermons and memorial services.
A three year old carrier pigeon from J R Krore, sent by Los Angeles experts, established a world record for 300 mile flight from Modesto to Los Angeles. The Homing Pigeon Club of Los Angeles has trained birds for 100, 200, and 300 mile flights. The bird left Modesto at 7 29 am and arrived in Los Angeles by 11 48 am, covering the distance in about two hours.
Judge Minor this morning awarded the plaintiff Mire Queen E. M and William T. Howell $20 and the costs in the case Mire Queen E M et al vs George Moye. Suit sought $59.75 as balance for harvesting grain. Defendant claimed $200 damages for not harvesting on time. Court deducted $50.75 from the claimed amount and rendered judgment for the plaintiffs.

A ranch user Modests presented a sizable alfalfa plant to Audi Sheriff G A Lander this morning. The plant stretched over four and a belt feet from root to tip, illustrating the potential of irrigation on Stanislaus county lands.
British Ambassador Pauncefote died at 5 20 this morning in Washington. The terse notice gives no cause of death and leaves a sense of abrupt loss at the diplomatic level. Other fragments discuss local land tracts, construction work, and various business advertisements in Modesto and Fresno.
