Market movement remained choppy as Dow Jones rose early then retreated, later firming on cease-fire news and Israeli military gains. A vast new lake on the Texas Louisiana boundary will span 180000 surface acres and back up 65 miles to Logansport. The Sabine River Authority builds without federal aid, financing from water and power revenue with possible recreational fees.
The Texas Legislature approved six proposed constitutional changes for voter consideration this fall including funding for medical bills for officers injured in duty and a large parks bond. Fourteen additional amendments were approved for November 5, 1968, covering taxes, bonds, and state programs. Governor Connally signaled a fall session and hinted no early special session, while the Texas Supreme Court issued key rulings on safety warnings, usury, and water salinity issues.
A $140,774 aging program approved for direct elder services in five cities. Contracts awarded to Texas Tech College, Big Spring hospital group, Tarrant County, Hidalgo County, and Senior Community Services. Legislature funds $475,000 for small airport projects and other state aviation and health initiatives are outlined.
