Sixteen Coal Miners Trapped by Fire at Arnold Mine
In Earlington Kentucky on November 16 a fire near the Arnold mine opening trapped sixteen miners, thirteen of them black, three white, about one to two miles east of town. Defective wiring started the blaze, spreading underground with smoke pouring out as rescuers fear suffocation among those three miles back from the entrance.
