The Missouri senate passed a resolution to submit to voters a ten million dollar bond issue for buildings at educational, eleemosynary and penal institutions. The plan calls for replacing obsolete structures with fire proof new ones and includes repair provisions. A four member state building commission would oversee construction and spending. Lightning Strikes Transformer on Cherry Street
At about 9:30 during a severe sleet and storm, lightning hit a transformer in the 200 block of Cherry Street. Firemen extinguished the blaze quickly, with no injuries or damage to nearby homes. Night Fire Chief Robertson said this was the only reported lightning damage.

Ray Long a rugged middleweight formerly of Kansas City now based in Jefferson City defeated Al Beard welterweight from McCook Nebraska by a technical knockout in the fourth round of a scheduled 10 round main event at the Gem Theatre. Long knocked Beard down seven times before Beard's seconds tossed in the towel ending the bout. Long will make Jefferson City his headquarters.
