The Laymen's League of the Capital City gathered 1536 members and guests at a Methodist Church banquet to start the year. Incoming president E L Corbin outlined plans for 1930 and urged league members to pursue better churches and a cleaner city. Senator A L McCawley spoke on the eighteenth amendment and urged opposing any dilution of prohibition. he praised church influence and the league as a force for good. Musical numbers by the Angler's Class orchestra and a local quartet complemented the event. Next meeting set for February 14 at the Baptist Church.

Released convict faces new charge in St Louis
Jack LaBreacht, a St Louis convict released yesterday after four years for burglary, returns to the city with an officer to face additional burglary charges. H O Smith escorted James Woods, another local convict, from prison farm number 1 after a Los Angeles extradition hold. Woods escaped September 3, 1926, with four others. he is the third captured.
